Muscle pain can be an extremely painful condition that is often classified as being aching and stabbing. This pain can be due to a multitude of factors including repetitive activities, increased stress or from a traumatic injury. The patient may develop discrete trigger points, which can cause severe pain.
Oftentimes this pain can improve on its own, but persistent muscle pain can be treated with trigger point injections. To treat the pain, your provider may perform ultrasound guided injections where medication consisting of local anesthetic and steroid are injected. This penetrates the muscle and can reduce tension in the affected regions. It is important that you work with your provider to establish a clear treatment plan to best utilize these types of injections.
